I’ve been a bit behind on posting to this blog lately. It’s been a busy summer. This being the first year following the Tour de France since I started this blog. I hadn’t realized how much time I actually spent watching the Epic Race. Then in August I gotten a couple of projects, the first one is done and the second will be finished soon. Now a new project has been occupying my time from this blog. Cycling!

One thing I have always told new photographers, photograph what you love. So, I’ve been taking my own advice. I love cycling.

Recently my love of cycling took me to the discovery of the web site Chicago Bike Racing and from there a slew of other cycling sites. Chicago Cross Cup, Athletes by Design and more.

So in my free time, instead of writing here, I’ve been out photographing bike races. Below are a from the last couple of weeks.

She explains, very well I might add, that sure anyone can buy a camera but it takes a photographer to make a photograph

I made the photo above recently at the Winfield Criterium. I think it goes to show, that although anyone can buy a bicycle it takes a Cyclist to compete and win

Personal Note: Is it REALLY the largest photo if it is never actually printed?

As I have stated numerous times. We are at a time when people are not taking their business as seriously as they should (or used to).

Recently Fast Media magazine published an article “In search of good enough” in it they discuss the emergence of the amateurs into the stock photography world and how it drives down the quality.

At some point those who have been selling their “Good Enough” work will, with time (and practice) get better (it’s inevitable). Then they will have to contend with a new crop of “Good Enough” photographers and their under cutting prices. Do you see a viscous circle forming here.

Face it, using “Good Enough” photography will only get you “Good Enough” results. Leaving no room for growth and profits.

I apologize for my absence from this blog

ya see, every July they have this little cycling event overseas, ya might have heard of it called the Tour De France

well you see, I’m a bit of a fan of cycling and this Tour De France is kind of a big deal
Well…it turns out that all of my free time was consumed watching the race on Versus and left no time for me to post to this blog. I’m still new to this thing and guess I next year I need to do a better job of scheduling so I have time for both.

I plan on getting back into a regular posting schedule very soon.

In my defense. It WAS a FREAKIN’ AWESOME Tour this year.
Congrats to Alberto (Yellow Jersey), Andy (2nd Place and White Jersey), Dennis (3rd), Alessandro (Green Jersey), Anthony (Polka Dot Jersey) and to Team Radio Shack (1st place in the team competition).

The photo above, I’m sorry to say is not from the Tour but from the Chicago Criterium a couple of years ago. If anyone out there needs a photographer for the 2011 Tour, Let’s talk

Although Lee is trying to prove it’s not the equipment, notice that…

1) Fantastic Model
2) Professional Make-Up and Stylist is used
3) Excellent Lights are used (with the exception of the ones he got from Lowes. He still had to use some decent soft boxes to make those work)
4) Professional Retoucher

This really shows that the combined talents of the individuals make these shots great and not the camera
