New Media

Today I wanted to go over New Media and How I use it for my business.

One problem I faced when starting up with New Media (aka: Social Media) was how to separate my business use from my personal use. It didn’t take long for me to realize that was going to be next to be impossible. Von R Buzard photo, that’s me, I am my business and it is me.

I’ve created a diagram of what Rosh Sillars refers to as my New Media solar system. The center of any solar system is your sun. The place where all your web traffic should point to. Most times that would be your blog but I decided early on that I wanted this to be my online gallery. Here is a breakdown of my New Media usage.

Blogs
VrBuzard.com: This is my business blog. Here I post on all things concerning my photography business as well as matters of marketing.

Cycling-foto.com: I use this space as my personal blog. It didn’t take me long to decide that there were things I wanted to post about (ie: cycling, fitness, personal photography) that didn’t fit into my business site.

Cyc-lust.com: My Fine Art Photography site

Social Media Sites
Facebook: Like many people I enjoy keeping in touch with friends, family and long gone associates. Facebook is also a good place to connect with clients, Past, Present and Future. Thus I have pages for each of the blogs above as well as my personal timeline.

Twitter: My main use of Twitter (@vonrbuzard @cycling_foto @cyc_lust) is an aggregator of information. Here I promote blog posts and retweet posts of interest

LinkedIn: I use LinkedIn to connect with industry colleagues and to promote blog posts from VrBuzard.com

Google+: I like this site but frankly I have yet to figure out the best way to use it

YouTube: I use this site solely as a place to post the videos that I introduce my blog posts with.

Workflow
Blog post are scheduled weekly (VrBuzard.com on Tuesdays and Cycling-foto.com on Fridays)

VrBuzard.com posts are then posted to LinkedIn. I have LinkedIn tied to my @vonrbuzard Twitter account and that account is tied to my Facebook account. Every post and LinkedIn automatically gets posted at Twitter and then to Facebook. I then post it manually to my Facebook business page.
